FIELD: optical equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in terahertz (THz) spectroscopy and in THz imaging systems in biomedicine, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, in non-destructive testing and safety systems, etc. A lens for THz radiation has a body made of a material with high transmittance of THz radiation and with a structure with a period less than the wavelength of radiation. An opal-like material with a refractive index from 1.6 to 1.95 is used, in the pores of the material there is a substance with high transmittance in the THz range of radiation, including gas. The method for manufacturing the lens includes obtaining an opal-like material by precipitation and drying of a colloidal suspension of SiO2 globules of equal diameter selected from a range of 200 to 1000 nm with a deviation of the diameter value of no more than 5%, sintering annealing at a temperature of 200 to 1200°C and filling of residual pores with a substance with a different refractive index or binder.
EFFECT: expansion of the range of THz elements, an increase in the variability of possible shapes and characteristics of lenses, an increase in the range of their operating temperatures.
