FIELD: optical fiber production.
SUBSTANCE: method for applying liquid coating to optical fiber is described. Optical fiber is pulled through a guide head into a pressurized coating chamber and through the pressurized coating chamber into a calibration head. The pressurized coating chamber contains coating liquid. The method includes conducting coating liquid in a direction transverse to a technological route of optical fiber in the pressurized coating chamber. A separate coating fluid flow is introduced into the coating chamber at a speed greater than 0.1 cm3/s. The transverse coating fluid flow counteracts negative effects associated with vortex movements created in the pressurized coating chamber during the extraction process.
EFFECT: advantages of the transverse flow include the elimination of bubbles, reduction in the vortex temperature, improvement of wetting, homogenization of properties of coating liquid in the pressurized coating chamber and stabilization of the meniscus.
