The additive for a hydraulic composition contains component A and component B. Component A is a compound described by the general formula , where R¹ represents an alkyl group containing from 8 to 20 carbon atoms, an alkenyl group containing from 8 to 20 carbon atoms, an aryl group containing from 8 to 20 carbon atoms, a functional group represented by the formula (R²)₂-N(CO)- (R² is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group of 8 to 20 carbon atoms, or an alkenyl group of 8 to 20 carbon atoms, and except for the presence of both R² as hydrogen atoms), or a functional group of the formula R³-О(CO)- (R³is an alkyl group having 8 to 20 carbon atoms or an alkenyl group having 8 to 20 carbon atoms); both X and Y represent a carboxy group or a salt of a carboxy group; or each of X and Y is a salt of a sulfonic acid group. Component B is at least one phosphate ester.
