FIELD: containers.
SUBSTANCE: beverage container used for a carbonated beverage includes a body and a base. The base has an edge that extends from the body and a vault. The ribs run between the edge and the arch. The base also includes multiple legs. Each leg is formed between each pair of adjacent ribs. The legs run from the edge to the arch. Each leg has a support surface and two side walls. The transition point of each rib is between the edge and the vault. The tangent at each transition point has a slope of zero. The transition between the supporting surface of each leg and the side walls of each leg is smooth.
EFFECT: smooth transition between surfaces reduces stress concentrations in the base, which allows the base to be formed using less material, which reduces manufacturing costs and weight.
