FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy and can be used to obtain technical silicon or high-percentage grades of silicon ferroalloys by reducing smelting in ore-reducing electric furnaces. The method includes metering a charge consisting of quartzite and carbonaceous reducing agents, simultaneously loading the charge onto the top and processing the top, conducting reduction smelting in an ore-reduction electric furnace, while first loading the charge onto the top of the furnace two to three times an hour and after each loading of the charge is carried out processing of the top of the top over the entire surface to a depth of 600-800 mm.
EFFECT: this method for processing the top increases the degree of silicon extraction into the melt, increases the furnace productivity and reduces the specific power consumption.
