FIELD: testing.
SUBSTANCE: described are a method and apparatus for testing rings cut from pipes for application in building of underwater pipelines. The method for determining the correctness of installation of the tested ring in the test chamber for testing pipes for application in manufacture of underwater pipelines includes: installing the tested ring in the pressure chamber so that the ends of the tested ring form seals with the opposite surfaces of the chamber in order to isolate the inside of the tested ring from the outside; providing a means for measuring the displacement of the tested ring; providing a means for measuring the force applied to the inner surface of the tested ring; applying a force to the inner surface of the tested ring; and using the measurements of displacement and force in order to determine the correctness of installation of the tested ring in the pressure chamber.
EFFECT: developed method and apparatus for improving the accuracy of crush tests under the impact of external pressure, conducted on ring samples.
