FIELD: computer engineering.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to computer engineering. Technical result is achieved by determining which of the two lossless spectral peak positions encoding schemes to use for the audio signal segment spectral peak positions encoding, wherein the first lossless encoding scheme of spectral peak positions is suitable for periodic or semi-periodic distributions of spectral peak positions, and the second lossless coding scheme of spectral peak positions is suitable for sparse distribution of spectral peak positions; selecting a second spectral peak position encoding scheme if the maximum distance between two spectral peaks in the audio signal segment exceeds a threshold; selecting a spectral peak position encoding scheme which requires the least number of bits for encoding the spectral peak positions of the audio signal segment if the maximum distance does not exceed a threshold; and indicating the selected encoding scheme to the decoder in association with the encoded positions of the spectral peaks.
EFFECT: reduction of the number of bits used in lossless scheme of encoding and decoding positions of spectral peaks.
