FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of organic chemistry, in particular to the production of a higher alkyl (C8-C22) imidazoline of the following formula, where R is a saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon radical C8-C22, by thermocatalytic reaction at temperature of 200 °C reaction of fatty acid or mixture of fatty acids, with alkylpolyamine H2N(CH2CH2NH)nCH2CH2NH2, where n=2–8, taken in molar ratio of fatty acids to alkylpolyamine as 1:1-0.33, respectively, in the presence of crystalline nitrilotrimethylphosphonic acid of formula C3H12NO9P3 as a catalyst in amount of 0.5 wt.% to the starting material and distillation in vacuum at temperature of 100 °C water formed during synthesis.
EFFECT: simplified process of synthesis of alkylimidazoline of the specified formula, characterized by greater depth of cyclisation.
