FIELD: control equipment.

SUBSTANCE: system for use in the determination of a relative position of the first and the second parts of a borehole device, and method for use in the determination of a relative position of the first and the second parts of a borehole device are claimed. The system contains: a set of indicator elements having a given spatial position relatively to the first part of the borehole device. Each indicator element has a functional possibility of generating a different electromagnetic field. A sensor element has a functional possibility of sensing corresponding electromagnetic fields related to each indicator element. An inducing element activates each indicator element for generating corresponding electromagnetic fields. The second part of the borehole device is made with the possibility of selective displacement for passing between the sensor element and one or more indicator elements according to the relative position of the first and the second parts of the borehole device.

EFFECT: increase in the quality of control of a borehole tool.
