SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a system for closing a beverage container, in particular a beverage can, having a lid (1) that has an upper side and a lower side, this lid having a drinking opening (4), a closing element (20) for closing the drinking opening and a handling element (8) for opening the drinking opening manually by the user, with the closure being located on the underside of the lid and fixedly connected to the handling element on the upper side of the lid, a cover for closing the drinking opening is configured to cover the drinking opening in the closed position; and the manipulation element and the closure are disposed to move along a first axis that extends substantially parallel to the top side of the lid, wherein movement of the manipulation element in a first direction along the first axis causes the closure to move from the closed position and open the drinking opening, and movement of the handling element in the opposite direction to the first direction to the second direction along the first axis causes the closure to move into the closed position and re-closure of the drinking opening.
