SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the area of hair cutting apparatuses. The invention relates to a hair cutting unit for use in a shaving apparatus, containing an external cutting part and an internal cutting part. The annular hair cutting path of the external cutting part has a central axis, hair entry holes, and hair guiding elements. Each hair guiding element comprises sections of the external and internal surfaces, a first and a second side surfaces, a first and a second cutting edges. The internal cutting part comprises first and second cutting edges. Each hair guiding element of the external cutting part has an imaginary middle axis. The imaginary middle axis crosses a section of the internal surface at the crossing point at half the distance between the first and second cutting edges. The imaginary middle axis divides the total cross-sectional area of the hair guiding element into a first part of the cross-sectional area and a second part of the cross-sectional area. The total cross-sectional area constitutes the sum of the first and second parts of the cross-sectional area. The first part of the cross-sectional area of each hair guiding element is equal to or less than 48% of the total cross-sectional area of the hair guiding element.
