FIELD: water purification.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the technology of hydrogen isotope separation; it can be used to remove radioactive contaminants from aqueous media. A method for separating tritium from water contaminated with it includes adding anhydrous strontium peroxide (hereinafter – SPO) to contaminated water with the possibility of uniform distribution of SPO over the water volume until a precipitate of strontium peroxide octahydrate is formed, and this precipitate is separated. The precipitate is a tritium concentrate in the form of strontium peroxide octahydrate. The use of anhydrous strontium peroxide for the purification of contaminated water from tritium is also proposed.
EFFECT: inventions make it possible to process large volumes of water contaminated with tritium in a simple and easily scalable way.
