SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of purifying helium. Stream (1) containing at least 10 % helium, at least 10 % nitrogen in addition to hydrogen and methane, is separated, to form stream (3) enriched with helium, containing hydrogen, first stream (9) enriched with nitrogen and methane, and second stream (11) enriched with nitrogen and methane. Helium-rich stream is treated to obtain helium-rich product (7) and residual gas (15) containing water. Residual gas is treated by adsorption (pressure swing adsorption with temperature fluctuations (TSA)) to remove water, and regeneration gas (13) from adsorption is directed to combustion unit (O).
EFFECT: reduced amount of methane released into atmosphere.
