FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods and apparatus for extracting helium. Helium-containing stream is extracted from raw natural gas using a membrane, followed by multiple stages of distillation. Cooling is ensured by expansion of still liquor with higher content of nitrogen than in raw material, which enables to achieve lower temperature in the method. Helium-rich steam is then purified, and the stream of helium-containing wastes is recycled to maximize output and reduce the number of required compressors. Helium-depleted natural gas stream can be returned under pressure for recycling or transportation.
EFFECT: technical result is reduction of flow rate in distillation column.
