SUBSTANCE: method according to the present invention solves the problem of efficient production of dialkyl carbonate. Said task can be solved by a method of producing a dialkyl carbonate containing an alkyl group containing from 1 to 6 carbon atoms by reacting urea and at least one alkyl carbamate with an aliphatic alcohol in the presence of a catalyst, wherein the method comprises a step for feeding an inert gas, wherein an inert gas for displacing ammonia, formed as a result of the reaction is fed into a reactor in which the reaction is carried out; and a removal step, at which ammonia formed in the reactor and the supplied gas are simultaneously removed, reaction is carried out so that the inert gas supply step satisfies following formula (1): 52.0<((A+B)×22,400+L×M/17.03×22,400)/L<91.0, where A, B, L and M are defined below: A is a decrease in the amount of urea per unit of time (mol/min), B is an increase in the amount of dialkyl carbonate per unit of time (mol/min), L is the amount of aliphatic alcohol, contained in the liquid condensed in the cooler tube and returned to the reactor, per unit of time (g/min), M is solubility of ammonia in aliphatic alcohol (ROH) at temperature of the cooler tube and pressure during reaction [NH3-g/ROH-g].
