SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for tracking carbon blocks during their processing, their transportation and/or their storage. The method includes tracking of carbon blocks during their processing, their transportation and/or their storage in a system containing at least one post of initial identification of at least one carbon block, a signature generator that allows for the detection on at least one shot taken by an initial shooting device of at least one characteristic visual sign for generation and storage in the memory of at least one digital signature for the carbon block, at least one post of monitoring identification of the carbon block, at least one detector that allows for the detection on at least one shot taken by a monitoring shooting device of at least partially indicated characteristic visual sign and recognition of the digital signature of the carbon block to identify the carbon block. At the same time, at least one initial shot of at least part of the outer surface of at least one carbon block is taken using the post of initial identification. On the initial shot, at least one characteristic visual sign is detected. At least one digital signature for the carbon block is generated and stored in the memory based on the specified characteristic visual sign. The digital signature is recognized on at least one post of monitoring identification.

EFFECT: increase in the reliability of tracking anodes and, in general, carbon blocks during their entire use, provision of minimal dimensions of the system, possibility of its easy use at any point of a path of carbon block passage, monitoring of blocks before and after thermal processing, and reduction in the cost of tracking.
