SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of mechanical engineering, and more specifically to the protection of metal from corrosion. A method for evaluating the protective effectiveness of compositions inhibiting stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of pipe steels and used as part of protective coatings for pipelines intended for transporting natural gas, in which a steel pipe fragment is selected, cylindrical samples and rectangular model samples with a cut on the surface are cut out. The effectiveness of the protective properties of the composition is evaluated. The samples are stretched. Tested for SCC in air. The length of the crack at the end of the test and the value of the crack growth rate are determined. If, according to the results of all the above tests, the composition inhibiting SCC of pipe steels is recognized as effective, then it is used as part of the external protective coatings of pipelines intended for the transportation of natural gas.

EFFECT: expansion of functionality is achieved.
