FIELD: data processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer-implemented data processing, and more specifically to methods and systems for processing LIDAR sensor data. A method includes: receiving the first data set and the second data set having a set of data points; correlating at least part of the set of the first points with at least part of the set of the second points, thereby defining a set of pairs; determining a pair-specific filtering parameter for a given one of the set of pairs by calculating distances between adjacent rays between this first data point and the corresponding one of the set of neighboring points, wherein this distance between neighboring rays represents the linear distance between this first data point and the corresponding one of the set of neighboring points; excluding this one of the set of pairs from post-processing in response to a positive pair-specific parameter; and processing a reduced set of pairs to combine the first data set and the second data set.
EFFECT: increase in the level of accuracy for the convergence of ICP algorithm, improvement of the filtering stage, reduction in the distortion of objects in a comprehensive representation of the scene.
