SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the oil and gas industry, in particular, to methods for detecting leaks in methanol supply pipelines (methanol pipelines) in gas condensate wells. A method for detecting a leak in a methanol pipeline is to turn off the methanol supply pipeline with a shut-off valve. Inert gas is injected into the pipeline from the mobile unit by alternately opening the shut-off valves of the inert gas supply line and the shut-off valves of the methanol supply. Injection of inert gas to a pressure not exceeding the permitted pressure of the pipeline. Closing valves, maintaining the pipeline under pressure and bypassing the pipeline route and detecting a leaky area at the place of leakage of inert gas. The place of damage is indicated for further repair and the inert gas is bled from the pipeline to the flare unit.

EFFECT: reducing the negative impact on the environment, as well as reducing the risk of fire.
