SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for determining the content of sulfide and polysulfide sulfur compounds. A method for determining the content of sulfide and polysulfide sulfur compounds in sediments in oilfield and oil refining equipment is described, according to which a sediment sample is mixed directly at the sampling site with a 5-8% solution of ascorbic acid at the rate of 1-2 ml of acid per 5 g of sample, the sample prepared by this method is treated in a nitrogen atmosphere with a 20% solution of hydrochloric acid at S:L=(1:10-25) for 60-70 minutes during boiling with distillation of the released hydrogen sulfide H2S and calculation of its total amount according to the results of iodometric titration, after that, the specified sample is additionally treated with a 9% solution of nitric acid (T: W = 1:50) with the transfer of polysulfide ions present in the sample to the sulfate form SO42- and its content in the sample is determined by one of the known methods, after which the content of polysulfide ions Sn2- is found according to the formula (2): , where msam g is the weight of the sample before antioxidant treatment, g, Sn2- is the number of polysulfide ions, %, C(SO42-) is the concentration of sulfate ion, g/l, 0.33 is the mass fraction of sulfur in SO42-.
