FIELD: differentials.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to differentials. The electronically lockable differential assembly comprises a differential housing, two side gears mounted for rotation inside the differential housing. Side gears are located coaxially along the axis of rotation of the differential housing. The lock engagement mechanism includes a rotary plate that selectively moves between a locked state in which the side gears are fixed to rotate simultaneously and an unlocked state in which the side gears rotate relative to each other. The first speed sensor wheel has teeth on the differential housing. The second speed sensor wheel has teeth on the turntable. The first and second lock sensors detect the position of the first and second plurality of teeth. The controller determines whether the lock engagement mechanism is in the locked or unlocked state based on the respective positions of the first and second plurality of teeth.
