SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of protection of metals from corrosion, namely: to compositions and methods for the reduction in metal corrosion in a water system, using benzimidazoles. The method includes the introduction of benzimidazole and halogen into the water system, which contacts with a metal surface. Halogen can be bromine, iodine, or any combination thereof. The composition includes halogen selected from bromine, iodine, or any combination thereof, and a benzimidazole compound or its salt.
EFFECT: increase in the efficiency of corrosion inhibition.
