SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer technology. The method for separating geographically distributed IP networks into subnets is characterized by the fact that network delays are measured from CDN network nodes for IP addresses included in the network prefixes intended for separation; building a temporary list of networks T; for each network from the list T remember the metric; an empty list R is created; each IP network in the list T is replaced by its containing IP network with one less netmask if the new IP network contains only one IP network from the list T as a subnet, and the metric is copied; two IP networks from the list T that are included in the same IP network with a one less mask are replaced by this network if their metrics contain at least one common node; when the replacement of two IP networks is not possible, the considered IP network or pair of IP networks is removed from the list T and added to the list R; the process is continued until the list T is empty or until there are no IP networks with netmasks greater than a given value in it, which are transferred to the list R; The IP networks in the R list replace the split network prefixes in the CDN load balancer.
