SUBSTANCE: invention relates to apparatus or appliances for hair styling. Apparatus for hair styling comprises a first clip; a second clip connected with the first clip; a temperature sensor configured to record the hair temperature and to output a temperature signal indicating the recorded hair temperature; a status sensor configured to determine the open or closed state of the first and second clips and to output a status signal indicating the open/closed state of the first and second clips; and a controller configured to: identify the current hair styling operation when a change is detected in the open/closed state of the first and second clips; determine the change in the hair temperature between the current hair styling operation and the previous styling operation; and calculate, based on the change in the hair temperature, the number of impacts imparted by the apparatus on the same strand of hair, so as to control the hair styling process.
