FIELD: wagons number determining.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means for determining the number of wagons in rolling stock. The device contains light sources (1) installed on the controlled section of the track and video recorders (2) installed on the controlled section in such a way that the automatic coupling, axles and the number of the controlled rolling unit are included in their field of view. The outputs of the video recorders (2) are connected to the corresponding inputs of the release detection unit (3) connected to the memory unit (4), the inputs/outputs of the release detection unit are connected respectively to the outputs/inputs of the automatic coupler recognition unit (5), the license plate recognition unit (6) and axes recognition unit (7), each of which is connected to the corresponding memory module (8, 9, 10), the output of the release detection unit is the output of the device.

EFFECT: increase in functional reliability is achieved due to the possibility of controlling the coupling of cars.
