SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for predicting the hydrogenability of coals. A method for predicting the hydrogenability of coals in direct liquefaction processes is described, including measuring the relative content of aliphatic structures in coals with respect to aromatic structures estimated from IR spectra, defined as the ratio of the sum of the optical densities of IR absorption bands of valence C-H vibrations of alkyl groups D2920+D2860 in the range of wave numbers 2840-2860cm-1 and 2960-2920 cm-1 to the optical density of the IR absorption band at 1600-1630 cm-1, relating to the valence vibrations of C=C bonds of aromatic rings D1600, that is (D2920 + D2860)/D1600, and, the higher the ratio (D2920 + D2860)/D1600 for a particular coal, the easier the coal is hydrogenated.

EFFECT: expansion of the arsenal of tools for predicting the hydrogenability of coals.
