FIELD: testing.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for determining asphaltenes. Described is a method for determining the content of asphaltenes in petroleum products with a high content of resinous substances and/or paraffins and in asphaltene-resin-paraffin deposits (ARPD), wherein the initial asphaltene-containing sample of the petroleum product or ARPD is weighed, treated with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) at S:L=1:(20 to 25); the non-dissolved deposit is separated by filtering, washed with isopropyl alcohol, dried in air, then dissolved at S:L=1:4 in a mixture of solvents containing a petroleum solvent-toluene in a volume ratio 1:1; the deposit formed at this stage is filtered, washed on the filter with said mixture of solvents, and washed from the filter with hot benzene into a pre-weighed flask, wherein said flask is dried at 105°C to a constant weight after boiling down the benzene together with the deposit, and weighed; wherein the difference in the weight of the empty flask and one containing dried sediment is taken as the weight of asphaltenes m1, and the relative content A thereof in the initial sample is calculated by the formula A=m1/m2·100%, wherein m1 is the weight of the dried asphaltene deposit; m2 is the weight of the initial sample.

EFFECT: simplification of the method, shortening of the duration thereof, reduction of labour costs and expenses for the implementation thereof, with a simultaneous increase in the accuracy and reliability.
