FIELD: instrument manufacture.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of optical instrumentation and pertains to a method for producing an IR shell polycrystalline fibre light guide from silver and thallium halides. Method includes forming a rod and a sleeve by pressing from silver and thallium halide crystals, assembling a shell workpiece, and conducting the process of extrusion of the shell optical fibre. Prior to assembling the shell workpiece, the rod and the sleeve are machine on an ultrahigh-precision diamond turning machine until the roughness of the contacting cylindrical surfaces of no more than 0.01 mcm and the values of non-roundness and non-linearity of the shaping surface of no more than 1 mcm are achieved.
EFFECT: reduced optical losses in the shell light guide.
