FIELD: maritime navigation.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of maritime navigation and can be used in navigation aids for performing observation. The sextant contains a ring-shaped frame with a limb. On the inner surface of the frame has a groove in which a hollow diametrical segment is placed, ending with an azimuthal reading-stop device. In the cavity of the diametrical segment, a shaft is installed, ending with a high-altitude reading-locking device. A flat translucent mirror is installed along the generatrix of the shaft. Auxiliary details in the form of an optical tube, a liquid level provide an increase in the accuracy of alignment of the rays of the luminaries and the retention of the sextant frame in the vertical plane of the first luminary. The sextan provides a measurement of the height of the luminary above the visible horizon, a direct measurement of the difference in heights and difference in azimuths of the luminaries, the sum of the heights and difference in azimuths of the luminaries without measuring their heights and azimuths, that is, regardless of the visibility of the horizon and regardless of fixing the direction of the meridian of the observer.

EFFECT: design is simplified, the number of measured astro-navigation parameters is increased.
