SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of telecommunications, and in particular to methods for transmitting data on radio relay intervals, and can be used in the design and construction of new or improving existing radio relay stations with adaptive modulation. The technical result is achieved by determining the suitability of the radio relay interval for data transmission at the required constant rate by comparing the value of Cmax(Pn.tr) with C'tr, where C'tr is the required data transfer rate at the required constant rate, at which the required probability is provided timely data transmission, if Cmax(Pn.tr) ≥C'tr, then data is transmitted at the required constant rate, and if at the same time Cj-1≤C'tr<Cj, where 1<j≤n, then excess speed gradations {Cj, …, Cn} is used to transmit data at an acceptable variable rate. When determining the maximum transmission rate, the requirements for the stability of the microwave interval when transmitting data at the required constant rate and the dynamic redistribution of the current transmission rate between data with the required constant rate and data with an acceptable variable rate are taken into account.

EFFECT: increasing the likelihood of timely data transfer at an acceptable variable rate.
