FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of electrical engineering for relay protection of electrical networks. The adaptive filter is implemented as a cascade of successively connected canonical filters of signal components, such as an aperiodic component and/or 1st, 3rd, 5th harmonics, and a residual signal filter. Each of these filters is tuned to suppress the output of the stage iteratively and on individual channels. The channel consists for the canonical signal component filter of the residual signal filter and canonical filters of the remaining signal components, and for the residual signal filter, only of the canonical signal component filters. The output signal of the cascade at the current iteration of the setting is determined by converting the digital signal by the cascade of the corresponding filters of the previous iteration. The quality of the adaptive filter settings is controlled by the difference between the Euclidean norms of the adaptive filter coefficient vectors at the current and previous iterations. It is believed that the required level of tuning quality has been achieved if the mentioned absolute value of the difference does not exceed a predetermined threshold.

EFFECT: increasing the speed of the method by reducing the observation window.
