FIELD: materials friction testing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to friction testing of materials. A fixed sample is fixed in a holder, a working body is placed on a fixed sample in an unloaded state - a Thomson top, the working body is rotated with an angular velocity , where are the moments of inertia about the main axes of symmetry, P is the weight of the body, r and h are the radius of curvature and the distance from the center of mass to the fulcrum necessary for the precession of the top and its deviation from the vertical position, then measure the force with which the leg of the top presses on the meter, when it deviates from the vertical position, processes the received signals, according to the formula for the gyroscopic moment of the top, the friction force is determined - where is the gyroscopic moment, is the friction force, - is the radius vector (distance) to the center of gravity of the top, then the coefficient of friction is determined where N is the normal reaction of the support, is the coefficient of friction. The device contains a fixed sample and a working fluid holder - a Thomson top mounted on a fixed sample and fixed on two rigid hangers. The working body and suspensions are connected through a plain bearing with the possibility of free rotation of the top in the suspension. Suspensions are fixed on the body of the device. Strain gauges are installed between the body and suspensions, which determine the force from the rotation of the working body - Thomson's top, connected to a computer. The working fluid is connected to the starter connected to the electric motor, the starter has a grip for disconnecting the working fluid at the start of precession, and a tachometer is installed on the motor shaft.
EFFECT: increasing the accuracy of measuring the friction coefficient of a rubbing pair.
