FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the chemical industry and metallurgy and can be used for converting germanium-containing coals and in lignite processing for generating electrical and thermal energy. Conversion of germanium-containing coals includes heat treatment of the coal in the form of layers by supplying air into the lower part of the apparatus and heating the upper layer of coal to the combustion temperature; creation of a stable combustion zone; maintenance of the temperature in the burning layer and in the cinder layer. The rate of advancement of the combustion zone is controlled by the air flow. Water vapours in the amount of 300 to 400 kg/t of coal are blown into the cinder layer.
EFFECT: higher yield of combustion gas and greater calorific value thereof.
