FIELD: heating.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a method and a unit (1) for microwave heating for heating an aerosolising sample (2) by means of absorption of microwaves by the material (102) of the sample (2) and, in particular, for thus releasing, at least one aerosol by means of or from the sample (2) when heating the sample (2), in particular, into or as part of an inhalation, vapourising, and/or smoking article or device (1'), in particular, for medical and/or pulmonary drug delivery apparatus. The microwave heating unit (1) comprises (i) a sample retention and impact unit (10) configured to accept and retain the sample (2) in the retention and impact space (15) and subjecting the sample (2) to the impact of the microwave field (25) in the retention and impact space (15), (ii) a microwave generation and/or release unit (20) configured to release the microwave field (25) into the retention and impact space (15), and (iii) an impedance matching unit (30) configured to match the impedance between the retention and impact space (15) and the microwave field (25).

EFFECT: provided alternative microwave heating units and methods with better heating and, thus, aerosol release possibilities.
