FIELD: hydraulic engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hydraulic engineering building and may be applicable in the erection of thaw-type embankment dams in the cryolithic zone when ice-rich thermal-collapsing soils are present in the upper layer of the dam foundation. The pre-construction preparation of such a foundation 2 is proposed to be done by filtration and drainage thawing to the full depth of the icy layer 3; therefor, deep drainage cuts 5 are made in the sides of the water reservoir and injected with water supplied from a natural watercourse 7, simultaneously acting as drainage; thermal filtration strains occur in the building period, while no strains on the structure are present in the operation period.
EFFECT: creation of a more efficient system for pre-construction filtration and drainage thermal preparation of the ice-rich foundation of a thaw-type dam using natural heat sources; underflow taliks may act as such sources, the preservation whereof on sites of frozen dams becomes increasingly less promising or even impossible; the entire process of heat and filtration preparation of the dam foundation in the proposed method can minimised.
