FIELD: recycling.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of recycling of polyethylene terephthalate (hereinafter – PETP) waste into carbon material. A method for recycling of PETP waste is proposed, including preliminary dissolution of polyethylene terephthalate waste in dimethyl sulfoxide at a temperature of 160-180°C, addition of alkaline metal hydroxide, and alkaline hydrolysis of dissolved PETP waste at a temperature of 130-150°C and atmospheric pressure to obtain terephthalic acid salt with its subsequent pyrolysis under impact of IR-radiation in inert atmosphere at a temperature of 800-900°C (two options using different alkaline metal hydroxides).
EFFECT: disposal of PETP waste with smaller energy costs, allowing for obtainment of porous carbon material, using a safer solvent – dimethyl sulfoxide.
