FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to the preparation of porous carbon materials and carbon sorbents from brown coal. The aforesaid materials and sorbents can be used in decontamination of the water and gas media from toxic contaminants as well as carbon filters for recovery of petrol and other light hydrocarbons vapours. The method includes: 1) mixing of crushed brown coal (fraction 1-2 mm, moisture content 20-25%) with solid sodium or potassium hydroxide in mass ratio 1:1-1:5; 2) following carbonisation and alkali activation at 600-800°C during 1 hour in inert atmosphere or in the atmosphere of the gases resulting at carbonisation; 3) washing of end-product from inorganic admixtures with water, then with diluted acid and again with water up to neutral ambient.
EFFECT: technology simplifying, decreasing of process time and improvement of carbon material characteristics.
