FIELD: organic chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry, specifically to a method for synthesis of 4-chlorophthalic acid. The method for the production of 4-chlorophthalic acid consists in addition, during mixing and at a temperature of 65-70°C, of a sodium hypochlorite solution to an aqueous suspension of 0.15 mol of phthalic anhydride, containing 0.45 mol of table salt and 0.03 mol of sodium acetate, cooling of reaction mass, its filtration, treatment of a fraction with a product with concentrated hydrochloric acid strictly to pH of 6.8-6.9, extraction, and evaporation of a solvent. The method is characterized in that addition of sodium hypochlorite is carried out in drops for 1.5 hours, the solution of sodium hypochlorite with a content of 0.127 mol of chlorine is used, cooling of reaction mass is carried out to 25°C, after filtration, filtrate is treated with concentrated hydrochloric acid, and extraction is carried out with methyl-tert-butyl ether.
EFFECT: simplification of a production method and increase in the yield of 4-chlorophthalic acid.
