FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy, in particular to the production of electrodes of synthetic graphite, resistant to high-temperature oxidation, used in metallurgical units. The method includes obtainment of a protective layer on a surface of electrodes, using an impregnating composition containing a medium-temperature pitch, heating and isothermal exposure of electrodes. First, the impregnating composition is prepared by heating of medium-temperature pitch to a temperature from 150 to 170°C and subsequent addition from 20 to 30 wt.% of one of refractory oxides or a mixture thereof, as which titanium dioxide, silicon dioxide, and chrome (III) oxide are used. Next, graphitized electrodes are loaded to autoclave and filled with the prepared impregnating composition without access of air, heated from 250 to 350°C with pressure from 5 to 6 atm, and exposed from 1.5 to 2.5 h. After that, electrodes are cooled and subjected to thermal processing by heating at a speed from 2 to 3°C/min to a temperature from 1200 to 1300°C and exposure at a final temperature from 1.5 to 2.5 h, and cooled.
EFFECT: increase in resistance of graphitized electrodes to high-temperature oxidation.
