METHOD FOR DETERMINING LOCATION DEPTH, PASSAGE SPEED AND TIME OF DRILL PIPE IN DRILL WELL BY READING RFID TAGS DURING DRILLING Russian patent published in 2023 - IPC E21B47/08 E21B45/00 E21B19/00

Abstract RU 2788411 C2

FIELD: oil and gas industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for determining the location depth, penetration rate and residence time of a drill pipe in a borehole by reading an RFID tag while drilling. The method is carried out using an automated measuring complex for reading RFID tags during drilling, installed on oil and gas drilling equipment above the wellhead, by processing the time intervals between the registration of sequentially passing drill pipes of known length with installed RFID tags as part of the drill string past the RFID antennas, containing: radio frequency RFID tags installed in the mechanisms and elements of the drill pipe, which is part of the drill string, and transmitting a signal to the RFID scanner through the RFID antenna; measuring system. Said measurement system consists of: RFID antennas mounted at the wellhead directly under the rotary table; a stationary RFID scanner mounted under the rotary table of the drilling rig, connected to the RFID antennas to generate the reception of signals from the RFID antennas; a network switch and a local server with software that calculates the depth of each pipe, the time spent by the drill pipe in the well and the speed of the drill pipe in the well during the passage of the pipe with the RFID tag installed on it past the RFID antenna; software that manages measurements, processes the received data and makes calculations; connection cables between the RFID antennas and the stationary RFID scanner. The RFID scanner online receives and reads the backscatter signal from the RFID tags installed in the successive pipes of the drill string, thereby determining the time of passage of the pipe with the RFID tag in automatic mode, and transmits the information to the local server for further processing in during the operation of the drill string. The local server contains software that calculates the current depth of each individual drill pipe in the well at each individual point in time. Determination of the current depth of the drill pipe lowered into the well is calculated by successively summing up the lengths of the drill pipes following the drill pipe for which the depth is calculated, and the determination of the current depth of the drill pipe pulled out of the well is carried out in the reverse order - by successive subtraction of the lengths of the previous ones from the assembled pipe when lowering the depth. drill pipes coming out of the well. The software calculates the residence time of each individual drill pipe in the well. The time spent by the drill pipe in the well is determined by calculating the time interval between the registration of the descent and retrieval of the same RFID tag passing by the RFID antenna. The software calculates the speed of movement of each individual drill pipe of the string in the well at each individual moment in time. The speed of the drill string during drilling or other tripping operation is determined by the calculation of the time intervals between the registration of sequentially passing drill pipes in the drill string with RFID tags installed past the RFID antenna.

EFFECT: implementation of a closed cycle control of the work of the drill string, as well as in the simplified conduct of measurements and calculations online, automatically, without the participation of the operator.
