FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for isolation of californium from iron-containing solutions. A method for isolation of californium from solutions includes sending of an initial solution to a chromatographic column, isolation of a target element, using an organic reagent, and subsequent elution with isolation of the target element into an aqueous solution. The working solution contains californium and iron nitrate, and it is obtained in the result of etching of parts of a mass separator. The working solution is regulated so that a pH value is in the range from 3 to 6, and is sent to the chromatographic column filled with the organic reagent in the form of a diluted solution of an organophosphorus compound – di(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid in an organic solvent, at the ratio from 1:1 to 1:5. Californium is extracted from the nitrate solution, after which it is reextracted by elution with an oxalic acid solution with a concentration from 0.1 to 0.5 mol/l, at an elution speed from 0.1 to 0.5 ml/min·cm2.
EFFECT: invention allows for provision of a high coefficient of separation of californium from iron, obtainment of a californium preparation with purity sufficient for its use in preparation of initial working substance for separation of isotopes, elimination of a probability of contamination of the purified preparation with other elements, and reduction in a radiolysis effect destructing reagents.
