FIELD: gas turbine engine.
SUBSTANCE: heat shield for a gas turbine engine comprises a main body having a front edge, a rear edge, side edges, a first surface and a second surface. The first surface is exposed to the hot working gas passing through the gas turbine engine in use. The heat shield has a front hook and a back hook, each extending between the side edges, with the front hook and back hook extending from the second surface. The stiffening structure extends from the front hook to the rear hook and does not directly contact or attach to the second surface.
EFFECT: improved heat shield reduces warping, reduces temperature gradients, reduces absolute temperatures and minimizes cooling air usage.
