SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer technology. A method for protecting computer networks, in which, during a specified time, the parameters of network traffic in the protected subnet are read and its self-similarity index is calculated. In case of detection of unauthorized information flows, the lease of previously assigned network parameters of devices in the source subnet is terminated and a device is set to generate and direct false network traffic. Form and assign new parameters in the new subnet to all devices, except for the device for the formation and direction of false network traffic. New parameters are generated and assigned in the new subnet to all devices, except for the device for generating and directing false network traffic. The calculated self-similarity index is compared with the set of its required values. If they do not match, false traffic with random parameters is generated and sent to the source subnet. Otherwise, mathematical models are formed for each of the network traffic parameters, in accordance with which information flows of self-similar network traffic are formed and sent to the source subnet within a specified time. After the specified time has elapsed, the direction of false network traffic to the original subnet is assigned to the device specified for this, new network parameters in the new subnet.
