SUBSTANCE: method of protecting computer networks is intended for use in systems for detecting attacks in order to quickly identify and counter unauthorized actions in computer networks, in particular in a "Internet" type data transmission network based on a TCP / IP communication protocol family, consists in the fact that the following disguise features of means of protecting computer networks are eliminated: activity of any IP address from the range of IP addresses of the computer network, as well as use of a single and immutable value (00:00:0F:FF:FF:FF)₁₆ MAC addresses regardless of real address of network adapter when responding to ARP requests to i-th unused IP address of network device of computer network.

EFFECT: high efficiency of protection and misleading an intruder relative to the structure of the computer network, by reducing the probability of the intruder detecting the use of the security means and identifying the characteristics thereof, achieved by dividing the address space of the computer network into regions which provide realistic operation of the protected computer network, as well as by generating a plurality of partially random MAC address values corresponding to false nodes of the computer network.
