FIELD: gastroenterology.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to determine the risk of developing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) based on the quantitative ratio of metabolite intensities normalized to the total ion current in a stool sample. The following metabolites are searched for and identified: n-Hexadecanoic acid, Hexanoic acid, Indole stool by GC-MS with headspace extraction method and their relative intensities are calculated, normalized to the total ion current. Calculate the risk factor for the development of IBD according to the formula Kr=(n-Hexadecanoic acid[I])/(Hexanoic acid[I]*Indole[I]), where [I] is the intensity of the ion current of the analysed metabolite, normalized to the total ion current. If Kr is less than 50, the absence of the risk of developing IBD is determined. Kr from 50 to 100 is a "grey zone", a borderline result. If Kr is equal to or greater than 100, a high risk of developing IBD is determined.

EFFECT: reduction of the number of sample preparation steps due to the use of the latest method for the study of metabolites through headspace extraction followed by GC-MS analysis with a minimum number.
