FIELD: milling.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a milling cutter, in particular to a cutter with a round shank. The milling cutter includes a cutter head, which has a cutter top of solid material as a cutting element, wherein the cutter shank is directly or indirectly connected to the cutter head, and a wear protection disc, which is put on the cutter shank with its opening, in particular a drilled hole. The wear protection disc has a counter surface on its side facing the cutter head, which is made to contact a contact surface of the cutter head. Moreover, the wear protection disc has a lower support surface on a side facing away from the specified counter surface, which is preferably parallel to the counter surface, and a disc thickness (d) is formed between the counter surface and the support surface. The ratio of a diameter of the cutter shank, located in the opening area, to the disc thickness (d) is in the range from 1.5 to 3.75, preferably in the range from 2 to 3.

EFFECT: reduction in a risk of breakage of a cutter shank, resistance to breakage.
