FIELD: image encoding/decoding.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means for image encoding and decoding. An image is separated into a set of tiles of the first level. A subset of tiles of the first level is separated into a set of tile of the second level, each of which contains one rectangular segment of image data. Tiles of the first level and tiles of the second level are assigned to one or more groups of tiles, so that all tiles in the corresponding group of tiles are limited for covering the rectangular part of the image. Tiles of the first level and tiles of the second level are encoded into a bit stream. At the same time, tiles of the first level, outside the mentioned subset, contain data of an image with the first resolution, and tiles of the second level contain data of an image with the second resolution different from the first resolution.
EFFECT: increase in the efficiency of image encoding due to provision of a flexible mechanism for splitting into tiles for support of an image with multiple resolutions.
