FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the production of high-molecular compounds by photoinitiated polymerization in solution using light irradiation of the visible spectral region and concerns a method for the production of polymethylmethacrylate, which can be used in the production of organic glass for the manufacture of consumer goods. A method for obtaining polymethylmethacrylate in a dimethyl sulfoxide solution in the presence of a catalytic system consisting of a photocatalyst, which uses methylene blue, Nile blue or neutral red, as well as an organohalogen initiator, as which ethyl-2-bromisobutyrate, 1-phenyl-1-ethyl bromide or tert-butyl bromide is used, and an amine, as which tributylamine or isopropylamine is used, when irradiated with visible light. The process is carried out at a molar ratio of monomer: catalyst: initiator: amine=100:0.01:1:0.5.
EFFECT: ensuring the possibility of polymerization both in the absence and in the presence of oxygen in the air without loss of efficiency.
