FIELD: inorganic chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: recovery of high purity lithium from crude lithium chloride brine. Crude brine is loaded into a feed tank maintained at temperature T1 and containing a source of carbonate sufficient to precipitate all of the carbonate-forming solids in the crude brine to form a precipitated mixture and a crystal-free supernatant. The supernatant is fed from the feed tank to the first crystallization reactor, which is maintained at temperature T2, crystallizing lithium carbonate therefrom. Temperature T1 is less than temperature T2. The flow rate is controlled by maintaining an equilibrium concentration of lithium carbonate in the dissolved phase of the crystallization reactor.
EFFECT: method allows continuous work on selective crystallization with a significant reduction in the size of the equipment used.
