FIELD: electrochemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to proton exchange membrane fuel cells that use hydrogen as fuel, as well as direct methanol and ethanol fuel cells. An electrocatalyst for a solid polymer fuel cell comprising at least 20 wt.% platinum on a carrier is proposed, characterized in that the carrier is a macroporous tin (IV) oxide doped with antimony (V) in an amount of 1-10 wt%, the electrocatalyst has a pore volume not less than 0.1 g/cm3, specific area - not less than 20 m2/g, average size of spherical macropores 100-550 nm, share of macropores in the total pore volume not less than 30%. A method is also proposed for producing an electrocatalyst by reducing the crystalline hydrate of chloroplatinic acid in an environment of ethylene glycol, alkali and a support, which is a macroporous tin (IV) oxide doped with antimony (V), which is obtained by template synthesis using polystyrene microspheres with a diameter of 160 to 800 nm.
EFFECT: increased electrochemical stability of platinum catalysts based on tin(IV) oxide without loss of activity.
